Toyota Auris Review - is this car underrated?

Toyota Auris Review – is this car underrated?

Living less than an hour away, I decide to the take the car on a pilgrimage to its birthplace. On the way, I find out if the Auris is any good.

This first generation Toyota Auris (2007-2013) was manufactured in the Burnaston Toyota Factory just outside Derby in the UK.

On the way, a full review of the car, including performance, comfort, practicality and more.

Car on review is a Mk1 2011 1.6 Valvematic petrol
(also known by Toyota as the E150)

Covers the Auris sold in the years 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012 and 2013.

  1. I've subbed, the only decent Auris review on YouTube, I'm gunna buy one in white 2011 model, 1 owner from new, 10 service stamps, 79k miles, £5999.
This review sealed the deal I think, I have a 2002 1.4 vvti corolla had it 6 years hassle free, 4 advisories from new never failed an MOT, wanted something abit newer with electric mirrors, cruise control, 6 gears and a bit more umph, this car ticks everybox and more, thanks.

  2. I have a 2008 1.4tr i only bought it in january ,i paid a lot 4k for it,1 elderly owner and it has a genuine 6400 miles on the clock with 14 main dealer services !,it smells new and drives beautifully it really is concourse condition but i am using it but it is stunning and i love it .

  3. The gear stick position is nice but not practical. The handbrake button is hard to use because you have to pull it rather than squeeze it hurts thumb . Suspension is very bouncy too . Mine is the Earlier model 2007 done 115 miles . Made in Turkey

  4. I have a 2006 one – with 250000kms -160kish miles? It is a 1800cc with CVT trans. I was skeptical about the CVT but after the amount of kms I’ve put on it, just keeps soldering on. I keep trying to find stuff that might go wrong with it but it won’t misbehave!

It’s particularly special with these record fuel prices. It’s a 40L tank and I get up to 630km on one tank, as good as a 1.3L alternative (That’s the CVT). It’s not a hybrid, but it’s almost as good as one.

It’s running as new, and I only paid $3200 for it.

The Toyota CVT trans is so good that at 100kmhr it sits at 1500rpm.

  5. 5 years ago I got the first generation of Auris 1.5L CVT (2012) in Japan just after graduated university and got a job. It was a mint condition but very cheap because it was a not popular “washing machine” car. Although I purchased it with £4,500 then run from 18000 to 45000 miles, no problem at all!

The washing machine did a perfect job for taking my girlfriend out, then still it is making a comfortable drive for a baby and wife with attaching child seat.

  6. Had a 07 Auris 2.0 D4d 126hp originally from Scotland and it was rotten to the core underneath failed mot needing a fuel filler neck couldn’t get one anywhere toyota garage charged £180 🤮 then the rear axle snapped at the spring carrier and one of the Ecus went out losing all communication £600 bill in one month . Safe to say it was sold 😂

  7. Unfortunately with my Auris, the left turn signal doesn’t flash on the dash board which I’ve noticed since I’ve had the car and I don’t know when that fault came about. Are both your turn signals displaying as normal on your dash? Would like to know if anyone has had this problem and find out what the solution is.

  8. I drove a diesel auris for 2 years as a company car. I enjoyed the higher seat and better view, also nice modern dashboard and console. I wasn't fan of the hard plastic they used in Auris and Yaris, also the chrome ring on the gear stick will peel off from wear but these are just a minor things. However once I drove older Corolla from 2005 because my Auris went for maintenance so the company gave me a Corolla for a week. During the week in previous model (Corolla 2005) I've noticed a quieter cabin and softer ride which was more comfortable and pleasant than the Auris. Regardless, the Corolla will look outdated compared to the Auris. I never had any issue with the Auris, just do the annual maintenance. It was very solid and reliable.

  9. My mother bought this car 2011 1.33 petrol had it for 9 years now, she's passed it on to me as she passed away. It does the job good car. It is very reliable. Nice review btw

  10. Have a 1,6 l 2008 Auris . 1st owner and have 120k miles on it. Overall a very good and RELIABLE car! Only problem mine burns oil about 1,5 litter every oil change with i do every 5000 km . Also in my opinion not a good car for the motorway as mine is a 5 speed automated manual and when on highway doing 120km/h it sits on 3500 rpms .

  11. I really enjoy watching your style of review. Are you able to review the Auris mk2 1.6 v-matic? As there's hardly any reviews on YouTube for that particular model. Keep up the good work. Thanks

  12. You deserve way more views. It’s so relaxing and interesting hearing you talk about various cars in a pretty unique way, compared to many other car reviewers and the like.

P.S.: I’m getting one of these tommorow. It’s the 2011 one with the 1.33 petrol engine and has around 80k miles on the clock and seems in pretty good shape overall. Hope it’ll serve me well for about 4-5 more years without many visits to the workshop!

  13. Owned a 1.6 2009 one since July 2019. Have driven it about 20k miles. Great all rounder and would recommend for the practical motorist any day. Powerful enough for motorway driving, and city streets etc. Still think they missed a trick with not doing a leather interior option, and no auto lights or wipers on mine, but as I said a great car, bigger inside than you'd think. Only issue I have had is that the rear light cluster seals were letting water into the boot when it was heavy raining, so I have since resealed with black silicon and ordered replacement seals to fit, quite common on cars, so not unusual.

  14. I had a1.6 vvt which was brilliant until some muppet rear ended me and wrote it off. I loved the instruments which Toyota called Optitron. As a family car it is more than a match for a Golf and Focus and will out last them both.
